CSI has commenced rigorous, high quality, practical research that underpins best practice in the management of effective social enterprises. A particular strength of CSI's research is its evidence-based nature that will provide a solid foundation for public policy change to enhance social impact in the delivery of community benefit.
The Director of Research, Les Hems will build a network of academics from within Australia and around the world. He will work closely with the not-for-profit, corporate and government sectors to ensure that research is timely, practical and relevant to evolving needs. The first stage of this was a major research conference in 2009 on the theme of ‘Fundamental issues in social innovation: a research agenda'. This involved the leading scholars from Australia and around the world setting out the framework for research in the area of social innovation, and will inform the research projects for CSI. The nonprofit sector in Australia lacks for the kind of practical research and quality management programs that the CSI is committed to building. Peter Shergold is also uniquely positioned to make this important initiative work. He brings a perspective and understanding of the three pillars of government, the nonprofit sector and business that will ensure the development of the kind of partnership model needed."
