Jeni Abelitis

Jeni has recently joined the Centre as the Event Coordinator after two years overseas on a working holiday. She has four years experience in marketing, administration and events. Jeni has a BA in Tourism Management, majoring in Public Relations, from the University of Canberra.
   

Sarah Adams

Research Assistant

Sarah has recently joined CSI as a research assistant following the completion of her undergraduate studies at UNSW, after working as a volunteer with CSI on several previous research reports. Sarah holds a BComm/BA with First Class Honours from UNSW. Her final year thesis examined sustainability reporting and assurance practices and the cost of equity capital.

Sarah has been involved with several local Sydney charities, including Oxfam UNSW, the NSW Oxfam State Committee and OzHarvest and has undertaken several internships in Australia and overseas. Sarah is also a current member of the Emerging Leaders for Social Change.

   

Catherine Armitage

Catherine works part-time with the Centre as a writer-researcher. She has a distinguished career in print media as a journalist and commentator on business, education and social issues, a foreign correspondent and most recently, as Higher Education Editor of The Australian newspaper. She is a Commerce graduate of UNSW.
   

Jemma Chao

Trainee

Jemma joins the Centre as our Indigenous Trainee. She is studying part time towards a Cert III in Business Administration. In 2007, Jemma participated in the 1967 Referendum debate on the topic: Australia has come to its senses (census) at NSW Parliament House. In 2004 she was awarded the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. She is currently working towards the Silver award and plans to start working towards the Gold in 2011.

Elena Douglas

Elena works for CSI(WA). She has a deep interest in public policy, community development, philanthropy and social enterprise.Elena has a track record of creating and leading new initiatives in a range of for-profit and third sector settings and is an advocate of increasing the role of the community benefit sector. Elena is the convenor of the Religion & Globalisation initiative at UWA, a partnership with the Tony Blair Faith Foundation. From 2002-2007 Elena was the founding CEO of Advance Global Australians headquartered in New York. She led the creation of a network of over 15,000 Australians overseas. During her time in New York she observed first hand the power of philanthropy in creating a vibrant civil society and innovative social enterprises. One of her aims is to share this experience and expertise in Australia. Elena has worked closely with Australian State and Commonwealth Governments on both sides of politics, designing and launching initiatives and contributing to policy debates. Kerrie Firth

Kerrie is the key point of contact between CSI and Melbourne Business School. She is responsible for coordinating CSI related initiatives and research projects. Kerrie was instrumental in supporting the establishment of MBS's new Asia Pacific Social Impact Leadership Centre and during the past year she facilitated a major event for the Asia Pacific Social Impact Leadership Centre and a number of smaller events for the faculty and the community.

Kerrie was closely involved in the administration of the Annual Fundraising campaign and was responsible for organising the international recruitment process for the new Chair of the Asia Pacific Social Impact Leadership Centre. Also, Kerrie has extensive industry experience in event organisation, customer service, high-profile talent management, logistics and book-keeping.

Meiko Georgouras

Meiko has recently taken up full-time work assisting Les Hems, after working part time as CSI's student administrative assistant for a year.

Meiko is currently studying a Bachelor of Design, and has developed a strong interest in the role of design in society, and the designer as a social entrepreneur.

   

Mei-Ling Ho

Mei-Ling brings a unique blend of experience to the team having worked in marketing for blue chip corporate companies and more recently having become a marketing specialist in the third sector over the last 5 years. During her time in the Corporate sector with companies such as Diageo, Nestle and Unilever, Mei-Ling observed and became passionate about the role major corporations could play in helping deliver community outcomes which resulted in her transitioning to the third sector in 2005 to manage the National Corporate Partnerships  with United Way. During this time she also launched the major cause related marketing program with The Good Guys electrical retailer, which involved 70 retail stores and United Way chapters nationally. Prior to CSI Mei-Ling was at the Australian Charities Fund where she led two major industry research projects into workplace giving.

Mei-Ling has a Bachelor of Commerce (UNSW) majoring in marketing and Business Japanese. She completed the Sydney Leadership Program in 2007.

     

Helen Imber

CSI Liaison Officer (Swinburne)

Helen joined the Faculty of Business and Enterprise in a part-time capacity to work with Dr. Michael Liffman in the Asia-Pacific Centre for Social Investment and Philanthropy, in the area of Community Engagement. She will serve as the key point of contact between CSI and Swinburne University and is responsible for coordinating CSI related initiatives and research projects at Swinburne.

Helen has worked in many fields of philanthropy in Melbourne over the past 10 years. She was Executive Officer of Melbourne Community Foundation for five years, during the foundation's first sprint of remarkable growth. Since 2003 Helen has worked in a wonderful variety of not-for-profits in a donor relation role. She has also worked for a boutique academic search organisation and was a founding member of Fitted for Work. Helen is also Executive Officer of the Australian Jewish Funders.

Esther Lefas

Esther gained her BA in Business and Events management from the London Metropolitan University. She has a background in events management and administration supporting the Cyprus Studies Centre at LMU, which aimed to promote general, tourist, political, cultural as well as academic issues.

Esther also has experience in the travel and tourism industry as well as experience teaching EFL for business purposes.

   

Lisa Lusthaus

Lisa works part time as the Centre's Secretariat Officer. She has completed a Bachelor of Science, Applied Psychology (Honours) from the University of New South Wales. She began her career as a research psychologist at The Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children, working in the Child Safety Centre on child accident prevention.

Lisa also worked with the Helping Hand Child Safety health program and has published articles on child safety. She founded MicroPress, a news bulletin specially written for children to encourage them to read about current affairs.

   

Penny Mack

Accountant

Penny Mack is the Accountant for the Centre and works part time. She holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from Curtin University of Technology and a Postgraduate Diploma in IT for Business from the City Polytechnic of Hong Kong.

Penny is a member of CPA Australia. She has a wealth of prior experience at UNSW, including as Senior Management Accountant in Accounting Services and as Finance Manager at the Australian School of Business.

   

Anne Measday

Anne was previously General Manager at the Australia and New Zealand School of Government.

Prior to that she was Director of the MBA (Executive) Program at the Australian Graduate School of Management and Manager of the Centre for Continuing Legal Education at the University of New South Wales. Anne has an LL.B. from the University of Adelaide, the LL.M. from Harvard University, and the MLMEd. from the University of Newcastle.

   

Nikita Nagesh

Student Administrative Assistant

Nikita is a third year Commerce/Law student at the University of New South Wales. She has a strong interest in the third sector, particularly in poverty reduction.

Nikita co-founded the student society "Education Without Borders (UNSW)" based on the belief that giving children access to education is one of the most powerful ways to assist them in escaping from the cycle of poverty. The society aims to provide educational opportunities to children in developing countries by holding events to support the projects of not-for-profit organisations and raising awareness about poverty. Encouraged by the "Best New Club of the Year" award in 2009 and the sponsorship of UBS in 2010, the society hopes to build a bi-lingual children's library in Asia by partnering with "Room to Read".

   

Chris Norgrove

Chris brings extensive experience from the corporate sector, previously working as an Executive Assistant with KBR, Sydney IVF Limited, HRM Consulting Pty Ltd and Brisbane City Travelodge. Chris has also completed an advanced Certificate in Travel and is a qualified International Travel Consultant.
   

Taryn Wing

Research Assistant

Taryn works part-time under Les Hems as a research assistant on a collaborative project with Parramatta City Council looking into the current social issues in the Parramatta LGA.

Taryn is currently studying a Bachelor of Advanced Science at UNSW majoring in Psychology, and is interested in undertaking an honours year in the field of Organisational Psychology. She is particularly interested in the area of management research that aims to find ways to maximise employee engagement and output.

Taryn has a personal interest in charity work, in particular, promoting and raising awareness of Down Syndrome (her younger sister was born with Downs).
