CSI has awarded two scholarships, in conjunction with the Chain Reaction Foundation and Jobs Australia, for two lucky individuals to attend a development conference in India. Alicia Mollaun, an Executive Officer in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Claire Hammerton, a solicitor at Deacons law firm, will shortly be heading to New Delhi to attend the PRIA International Internship Program.
The eight-week program brings together people interested in development from across the world to share and study participatory approaches to development and governance. The scholarships include the fees for the PRIA program, return airfares and additional funds for other travel expenses. On their return, Alicia and Claire will present their experiences at several conferences, with their reports shared on our website.
Alicia has already traveled in India and is interested in women's participation in democracy, micro-planning and the participation of rural women in micro-finance initiatives. Alicia has a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of Arts from QUT, and a Masters of International Economics and Finance from the UQ.
Claire has a long-standing interest in social justice with several years' volunteer experience at the NSW Young Lawyers' Human Rights Committee, the Homeless Person's Legal Service, the Australian Human Rights Centre, the Cape York Land Council, Oxfam, and the Australian League of Immigration Volunteers. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from UNSW.
"Although we had only a short timeframe for applications, we were thrilled with the standard of applicants we received," says Anne Measday, CSI General Manager. "Alicia and Claire were selected based on their interests and experience as well as their potential to gain from this internship. Congratulations to the winners; we look forward to their contribution in the development sector when they return."
